Hi Everyone,
The New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) is currently accepting proposals for funding community-based projects. So, we are busy creating our proposal for 2027.
The NHSP is a federal grant. It supports projects that are designed by seniors and for seniors all across Canada.
In the past, we received a grant both times we sent in a proposal. You might think that would make us feel confident about receiving a grant this time too, but let me tell you why we can't ever feel confident about receiving grants.
Firstly, there is always a lot of competition. Every organization sending in a proposal has a great idea that will support seniors in their communities. They are successful registered charities and non-profit organizations with good track records.
Secondly, the NHSP receives around 6,000 proposals per year but they only fund about 3,000 of them. So, 3,000 are turned down. (This is actually a good approval rate; the Ontario Trillium Foundation only funds about 8% of proposals they receive.)
It takes at least a month for us to write a proposal and if we miss something they want to hear, or we don't make a good enough case for the need, or there is anything that the NHSP evaluators think is too fuzzy or not realistic, or if the other proposals are all better than ours, we will be turned down.
When we look at the amount of time and effort it takes seeking a grant compared to the time it takes to simply ask for donations from folks like you, it's easy to see that donations win every time.
This newsletter is currently received by 852 people. If each person donated just $1 per month, that would net us over $10,000 a year!
Are you willing to donate a dollar a month?
The grant from the NHSP for 2027 is $50,000. If each person receiving this newsletter donated $5 a month, that would net us over $50,000 next year!
Are you willing to donate $5 a month?
I can promise you that we will spend your money wisely and that your donation will ALWAYS be used to help senior women find secure and affordable housing.
