Hi Everyone,
I have always believed that one person working alone CAN make a difference in the world.
And my work with the strong and resilient women of Senior Women Living Together has taught me that a community of people working together CAN make miracles happen!!
Humans have evolved the basic need for social connection because it is vital to our survival. This need is rooted deep within us biologically.
Within a community, we experience a sense of belonging; we feel connected to others; we feel we are part of something larger than ourselves. We feel we CAN and WILL make a difference.
Right now, Canada is facing significant threats to our economic well-being and to our sovereignty as a nation. As Canadians, many of us are feeling confused, betrayed, uncertain, frightened and sometimes hopeless.
I believe that Canada CAN and WILL weather this storm. If we work together through strong communities that share with other strong communities, we will build the nationwide resilience we need to fight back and ultimately create a better and more resilient Canada.
And this applies to the SWLT community as well. SWLT members are often facing threats from landlords or politicians that are not paying attention to the significant lack of affordable housing and/or are not interested in making the needed changes.
Within the larger SWLT community, there are lots of small communities of members with various individual needs. We have geographic communities, homeowners and leaseholders, vegans and vegetarians, sense-sensitive women, unvaccinated members and of course, our success stories.
There is sometimes disagreement within our smaller communities and between our smaller communities. But all of our communities have a common purpose - to help one another find compatible homemates to live together.
If we stay focused on our common purpose and continue to work together, we CAN and WILL be successful.
