NOVEMBER 2025

Hi Everyone,

Do you remember the Golden Girls show?

It was a remarkable show for lots of reasons and way ahead of it's time.

Four female friends decide to live together for financial reasons and to avoid loneliness. (That sounds familiar!).  They manage to work through their differences and love one another through all manner of circumstances.

I sometimes think of the show and how it relates to the SWLT process.
I wonder if Blanche, Dorothy, Rose and Sophia were searching for homemates through SWLT, would they find one another?  Would they think they were compatible?

Do you think they were compatible?  Let's look at the 4 personalities to see.

Blanche:
A spicy, self-confident Southern belle who is desperately seeking a new husband after the death of her childhood sweetheart. She has a collection of strange stories which she shares from time to time. Some would describe her as sexually promiscuous and impulsive. The other homemates are often disdainful of her behaviour, but she is unrepentant and confident enough to withstand their approach.

Dorothy:
A sardonic, introspective, compassionate, and often the voice of reason in the household. Dorothy is divorced after her husband left to run off with a stewardess. At times, she acts foolishly or negatively and needs her friends to help ground her again. But she is often sarcastic and blunt to the point of being rude and unreasonable, which the others tolerate.

Rose:
An innocent, loving, and kind-hearted but somewhat dim woman. She often annoys her homemates with her dim-wittedness and her long, rambling stories of her hometown, but Rose's loving and supportive attitude helps her friends keep a stiff upper lip during hard times. She is quite domestic and engages in a lot of volunteer work. She's also creative and a skilled sculptor. However, Rose has the potential to be the most nasty of the 4 with an extreme competitive streak.

Sophia:
The brazen, wisecracking mother of Dorothy. She became the unspoken matriarchal figure, bringing tall tales, wisecracks, delicious recipes, and a touch of motherly love to the household. She resembles the archetypal "old lady"; white-hair, small stature, wrinkles, and large-framed eyeglasses. She is prone to sharp criticism but she cares deeply for her new family. The other women usually seek Sophia out for advice, which Sophia is all too willing to share, using stories with a moral from which advice can be gleaned.

If someone was doing the matching, would they put these 4 women together?

Compatibility is a very difficult thing to determine. Often, no matter how much we know about another person, there are many things we only learn once we live together.

SWLT does not match our subscribers; they find their own matches.

But we have learned about the key ingredients for success, and we promote these things constantly:

  • learn as much as you can about the others
  • meet together a minimum of 5 times to get more in-depth information
  • trust your gut reactions
  • create and use the SWLT Homemate Agreement
  • stay committed to working through the issues that arise
