Hi Everyone,
You might be asking yourself, "Am I really ready to start living with other senior women?"
Or maybe you have thought, "How can I know if I am ready?"
These are great questions and preparing yourself is definitely the first thing you need to do.
"Living with others requires a significant shift from individualistic, mainstream living to a collaborative shared culture."
Making that shift can be challenging. It requires psychological, social and practical preparation.
We have an article that helps you explore your readiness and expectations as well as provides tips for how to live with others successfully. You can read it here: Preparing to Live with Others
I sometimes think of our homemate groups who are living together as small communities. By definition, a community is a group of people connected by shared characteristics, interests, location or values that foster a sense of belonging and mutual support.
Living in a community involves social interaction, collective identity, and often joint actions to meet common needs.
But a sense of community does not just happen on its own; it requires work. It happens when the group has regular, intentional conversations about their community. They hold regular meetings solely for this purpose.
For this reason, SWLT provides homemate groups with a guide for creating a Homemate Agreeement and strongly recommends that homemate groups meet regularly to discuss everything.
