Our step-by-step process works.
We have built it for success. Each step includes everything you need to know and everything you need to do to find compatible homemates and a home to live in together.
To learn why you need to take your time with each step, read
“Take Your Time: A happy home doesn’t happen in a day”
Step 1: Learn
To begin, check out our articles about shared living here. The more you learn now about shared living, the better prepared you will be for the next steps.
If you need some help to navigate our website, you can read Using the SWLT website or join one of our "office hours" online.

Step 2: Creating your profile
The first thing that happens when you join our website is the creation of your profile. Your profile explains what you are looking for and lets other subscribers know something about you. You simply respond to all of the questions and then write your own Introduction to add your own appeal.
Fill out a profile so other subscribers can find you
Step 3: Shop for Compatible Homemates
Once your profile is complete, you can search through other profiles looking for and noting the women you think are the best fit for you.
Search through profiles and find others you want to get to know
In our Subscriber articles, we provide tips on how to choose wisely, and a checklist to help you prepare to meet and talk with potential homemates.
Step 4: Chat with Potential Homemates
Subscribers can chat in regional or topical channels, or send direct messages to get to know one another, and then set up in-person meetings with one or more potential homemates. Spending time together before you live together is a key to success. Our moderators may arrange meetups in your area, or you can start a video meeting with one or a group in our chat.
Use the private chat, online meetings or group meetups to meet other subscribers safely.
Step 5: Co-create a Homemate Agreement
Once you find the women you want to live with, we will show you how to create an effective homemate agreement. These agreements are essential for success.
A SWLT volunteer will happily provide personalized help creating an agreement that is perfect for your homemate group.
Use the resources in the subscriber section to really get to know each other and create a homemate agreement.
Step 6: Find your New Home
You might choose to live with a member who owns her home. Or as a homemate group of two or more, we can support you to find a home that is perfect for all of you. Occasionally, SWLT has a partnership with a landlord. When that happens, if your homemate group has already formed, you will be all set to move in together.
Step 7: Living the Dream
Even after your homemate group has moved in to your new home, you can stay involved with us. We are here to help. We will check in with you every few months and offer support as needed. Or if you run into a snag, you can ask for individual help from one of our volunteers.
